not allowed a car in your first year.

I'm taking a wild guess as I am not a student in UCL halls:

No. UCL is not a campus based university and the halls are all in busy parts of London. It's not even worth driving there on a good day and nigh impossible to find decent parking spaces. This is what the oyster card was invented for :h:.

Eh? I only heard that was the case at Cambridge...

Erm my student accommodation has car parking facilities that you can pay for. Not sure about the others though (i'm at Schafer house). Not sure why you would want a car mind but anyway

A car in London? Gosh no. Safety, parking spaces and generally driving is pretty bad in London.

Send me a link to where you got your info because that makes no sense. Do you simply mean that its not practicle? God knows how they would enforce a rule like that (and why they would provide student parking in first year accommodation?)

If you don't mind £8 congestion charge day, plus parking, plus looking like a div. Go for it

Grow up, its not school. Everyone at uni is an adult.

Definately not practical, but definately not banned.

LOL. You've got to be kidding.
You would seriously NOT need a car in London.
It's not even worth considering, you'd be absolutely mad. Trust me, no one else will be bringing a car.
All of the halls are in busy areas and central, parking would cost you a fortune and you wouldn't be able to park close to nearly all of the halls anyway. There's a congestion charge Monday-Saturday.
You'd be able to walk or hop on a bus/tube to anywhere you needed to go.

I know a few people with motorbikes though. That's pretty practical.

And pretty awesome. I wish I had a motorcycle to whiz through London on.

Get one of those electric things, don't have to pay the congestion charge then

But let's be honest, is there a more embarrassing way to travel? They look like matchbox cars.
