Is Avcounting and Finance right for me?

I’ve been thinking of applying to study Accounting and Finance at Warwick and I am sceptical about if it is right for me. I love math and some parts of economics. If anyone that has studied the course could give me some insight that would be great. Does it have a lot of number or is it more essay based with lots of readings.

Hi, I studied A&F at Warwick and have friends who studied it too. Hardly any essays except for the odd core module each year - unless you use an elective to pick an essay-based module but you don't have to do that. The course is quite math-heavy (in my opinion), and some of the finance modules can be very hard but with enough work they're pretty doable. If you have other specific Qs feel free to PM!

What grades are you targeting at A level and in which subjects? Any reason not to do a maths or maths/ econ degree?

I have already done my A levels I got AAA in economics maths and politics. Would you say an economics degree is better than an A&F degree? I didn’t choose math/econ because I did not take TMUA and also I like math but I never did further math so really complex math isn’t my thing too.

I think an economics degree is broader than an A+F one - especially so if you look for a more mathematical/ statistics based one. You can still enter accounting jobs with an economics degree.

When would you need to take TMUA to apply for economics? Is it that you are applying for particular universities?

I’m pretty sure the TMUA cycle has ended and I’m looking at Warwick specifically

Ok - Warwick economics is known to be hard to get an offer for. I’m not sure they require TMUA though?
