Uni of York Accommodation 2025

Hi- I’ve been researching about accom at York, and understand that they don’t have a ‘first come first serve’ system as such, and instead ask you to select 7 preferred choices for colleges.

I’m going to be studying law( East Campus), and much prefer East Campus, so would love to go to Constantine,( which is my favourite college there) and will be willing to pay the higher amount for the great accommodation there.

So I’m just wondering( from any current students who went though the college app process, York representatives for accom/ applicants for this year who have a plan to get a specific college), if there is any way I can guarantee/ make my chances for Constantine as high as possible, as it makes the most sense for me, and I wouldn’t like to lose out on it.

Many thanks in advance.

I suspect if you put the most expensive Constantine room as your first choice you may well get it as lots will be going for the cheaper option. Other than that I don’t think you can do anything else to help your chances!

Hey, of course-

I’m not fully sure what anticipation grades are(but I’m guessing they’re PGs or the grades on the offer condition)-

I am a gap year student, so my offer is unconditional as I applied with my achieved grades- although I’m fairly sure most of their offers are around AAA as that’s their standard ER( but can’t be sure they all are ofc).

Hi there,

Congratulations on your offer to study at York - hopefully we'll be welcoming you onto Campus this September!

As the room allocations are done through an algorithm to make it as fair as possible, there isn't much you can do to guarantee you'll be given a room in Constantine College. However, for the best chance, I'd recommend you place all three of the Constantine options available to you at the top of your preference list. Then, make sure the rest of your seven choices are from Campus East Colleges (Anne Lister, Constantine, David Kato, Goodricke and Langwith), but remember not to exceed the maximum of four ensuite rooms. This should make it very likely that you'll be allocated a room on Campus East. However, make sure that you are willing to live in any of the seven choices you provide, as you might not be given your top choice.

Overall, my advice would be to not worry. As cheesy as it sounds, the best college is the one you are part of. All the colleges have their own unique character and history, but ultimately they all offer the same thing: accommodation, community and social events. I'm sure you'll have a good time, no matter which one you are allocated.

I hope this helps, if you have any more specific accommodation questions, you can get in touch with our friendly accommodation team via email ([email protected]) or phone (+44 (0)1904 322165). - Hannah 😀
