Uni of York Accommodation 2025

Hi- I’ve been researching about accom at York, and understand that they don’t have a ‘first come first serve’ system as such, and instead ask you to select 7 preferred choices for colleges.

I’m going to be studying law( East Campus), and much prefer East Campus, so would love to go to Constantine,( which is my favourite college there) and will be willing to pay the higher amount for the great accommodation there.

So I’m just wondering( from any current students who went though the college app process, York representatives for accom/ applicants for this year who have a plan to get a specific college), if there is any way I can guarantee/ make my chances for Constantine as high as possible, as it makes the most sense for me, and I wouldn’t like to lose out on it.

Many thanks in advance.

I suspect if you put the most expensive Constantine room as your first choice you may well get it as lots will be going for the cheaper option. Other than that I don’t think you can do anything else to help your chances!

Hey, of course-

I’m not fully sure what anticipation grades are(but I’m guessing they’re PGs or the grades on the offer condition)-

I am a gap year student, so my offer is unconditional as I applied with my achieved grades- although I’m fairly sure most of their offers are around AAA as that’s their standard ER( but can’t be sure they all are ofc).

Hi there,

Congratulations on your offer to study at York - hopefully we'll be welcoming you onto Campus this September!

As the room allocations are done through an algorithm to make it as fair as possible, there isn't much you can do to guarantee you'll be given a room in Constantine College. However, for the best chance, I'd recommend you place all three of the Constantine options available to you at the top of your preference list. Then, make sure the rest of your seven choices are from Campus East Colleges (Anne Lister, Constantine, David Kato, Goodricke and Langwith), but remember not to exceed the maximum of four ensuite rooms. This should make it very likely that you'll be allocated a room on Campus East. However, make sure that you are willing to live in any of the seven choices you provide, as you might not be given your top choice.

Overall, my advice would be to not worry. As cheesy as it sounds, the best college is the one you are part of. All the colleges have their own unique character and history, but ultimately they all offer the same thing: accommodation, community and social events. I'm sure you'll have a good time, no matter which one you are allocated.

I hope this helps, if you have any more specific accommodation questions, you can get in touch with our friendly accommodation team via email ([email protected]) or phone (+44 (0)1904 322165). - Hannah 😀

Hey, I know this is a long shot - I've applied for York to do a Biology undergraduate this year and with results today I was also offered accommodation at Constantine college. Unfortunately it's a shared bathroom which is not at all what I'm looking for due to medical reasons (It's slightly annoying that you have to apply to some shared bathroom accommodation.) I've already emailed the university to try my best to get it changed, but I'm not sure to what extent they'll be able to help.

All this is to say, with some digging about room swaps came across this post. If by chance you're still going to York, got in and didn't get the accommodation you want I'm currently looking for a swap to an ensuite room. I'm not bothered about if it's on campus west or east, or price, but would prefer self catered. If you are interested send me a message and hopefully end up in accommodation we both want

Hope results day went well for you

Hi there,

Congratulations on your place at York! I'm sorry that you're not happy with the room you've been given, that's really frustrating.

One option you could look into is swapping your room once you're here. I'd recommend calling our accommodation team on +44 (0)1904 322165, if you haven't already, to discuss your options.

Is there anything else about coming to York that you have questions on - I'd be happy to help
Hannah 😀

I’ve also been offered my 5th choice today which is a shared bathroom which I can’t really accept due to religious reasons as it is also mixed accommodation, I’ve sent York an email but I’m not sure what should I do? I feel like I have no option and don’t understand why the uni forces us to choose shared bathrooms as an option

Hey,

My apologies for the late reply, I’ve not been on TSR recently.

I’m sorry you didn’t get the room you were hoping for; I agree it’s a frustrating part of the application having to include 3 shared bathrooms.

I received an En-suite in Constantine College, so I’m unfortunately I can’t be much use for you, although I really hope you get the room you want after discussing with the University.
