The Student Room Group

Funding query

Hi there,

My daughter and I are UK citizens, we lived in the UK up until Aug 2023, then we moved to the Netherlands. We are applying for her student finance and I am worried that she will not be eligible. She is 18 in May 2025 and comes back to live in the family home in the UK in July 2025 (starting uni in Sept 2025).

I work for a UK company and I am in the UK every month for work purposes, I have a house here, and I am classed as UK resident for tax purposes.

SFE have asked for additional evidence re dates of when we left the UK which we are providing (SFE down so cannot upload at the moment).

Will the fact that she has been in the Netherlands for the 2 years prior to starting Uni in the UK mean she won't get funding?
Thanks
Ali

Hi Ali,

Just to check, are we asking for actual evidence of your daughter's time in the Netherlands, or have we just asked for a list of addresses?

Thanks, Graeme

Hi Graeme,
SFE has asked for addresses from 01/09/2022 until now and who she lived with during this time.
Thanks

Hi Ali,

A UK National does not need to meet the 3 year residency criteria as long as they have been living in the EEA for the last 3 years and they are ordinarily resident in the UK on the first day of the first term of their course. So the student will be able to provide their address in the Netherlands and still be eligible for funding.

Thanks, Drew
