Social science foundation year at Leeds

Hi! I’ve confirmed my place for the social science foundation year at Leeds. I’m a gap year student and trying to find other people with confirmed places at Leeds/ anyone who’s done the social science foundation year? How do you find it, pros and cons and ect?

I’ve applied for the James Baillie accommodation and kinda wanna know what it’s like, social wise I guess!

It’s not based on grades, they decide it through GCSEs and personal statements and your interview xox

I recently applied through UCAS Extra in hopes to progress onto the Law programme. I achieved DDD with Applied LP Science. However, the Law degree at Leeds requires D*DD + 2 additional A-Levels, which I do not have, hence why I applied to the Social Science Foundation Year. However, shortly after applying, I received an email stating my grades were too high and that I have overachieved, even though I am contextual and also have GCSEs ranging from 4–6. That’s why I am asking. It does not mention on their website that if you overachieve the minimum entry requirements, you won’t be allowed on the course even though you don’t meet the entry requirements for the normal course itself, i.e. Law LLB.

Their admissions emails are awful; they won’t read my email and keep sending the exact same response when I ask where it states that if you “overachieve” our minimum entry requirements, you won’t be allowed in. On their website, it states: “If you would like to study for one of our degrees in politics, sociology, law, education or healthcare, but don’t meet the typical entry requirements for direct entry, then this foundation year is for you.”

If you get what I mean I’m very disappointed with the outcome. Hence, I want to know what people got in with, as I disagree with the idea that my grades are “too high” because I studied Applied Science in college, not anything to do with Law.

Also in their email, they compared my grades to A-Level, stating that 'your BTEC grades are equivalent to A*A*A and our entry is CCC at A-Level. How is this fair, that they make my grades equivalent to a level when they want to. If my grades were actually equivalent to A*A*A i would have got into Law itself as I would have surpassed their requirements.

I got CDD, I get what you mean though. When I applied they didn’t actually ask what A levels I got in emails, just proof of my GCSEs.
Maybe just try again in clearing? It could be easier that way as you can voice why you actually wanna be in that course to them.

Very good tbh, it was more like a conversation about why you want to do the course, progression routes and stuff I guess, felt like a nice informal chat x
