Barton and Hickling vs Crome

I am currently applying for accommodation at UEA but was wondering what the difference between Barton/Hickling and Crome as I am able to apply for Crome separately but there is not much information on the differences since they are the same price too. Also what are everyone's opinions on each accommodation type as I'm mainly thinking of choosing these and Nelson court.

Hi there,

Great to hear you’re looking at accommodation at UEA Barton & Hickling, Crome Court, and Nelson Court are all solid choices!

Barton and Hickling are UEA’s newest accommodation blocks, located right on campus by the UEA Broad. They’re en-suite, modern, and generally a favourite among med students and those looking for quieter, more residential vibes. They’re also a bit more social than you might expect, with lots of students from different courses living there.

Crome Court is a slightly older but still very modern en-suite option. It’s just across the road from Barton & Hickling, so location-wise it's pretty similar close to the Sainsbury Centre and the lake, and around a 10-minute walk from the main academic buildings. Crome tends to be a bit quieter and more self-contained in feel. Some students say the rooms are slightly larger than in Barton & Hickling, but that depends on the flat.

Nelson Court is a little more central on campus and closer to the SU, Union Pub, and the library. It’s still en-suite but feels a little more lively it’s great if you want to be more in the middle of things.

If you’re after something modern, quiet, and scenic Barton & Hickling or Crome are both excellent. If you want something more sociable and central, Nelson might be more your style.

Let me know what vibe you're looking for and I can help narrow it down more!

Best,

Hi! I'm deciding between Barton/Hickling and The Village. Out of the two, which is more social/lively? (If anyone who has lived in these accoms has any comments or advice that would be much appreciated!)

Hi there,

Great to hear you’re deciding between Barton/Hickling and The Village. Both are popular choices at UEA, but they definitely have slightly different vibes.

Barton and Hickling are modern en-suite accommodations right on campus, so you’re super close to lecture halls, the library, and the SU. They’re generally considered a bit more lively and social, mainly because they’re newer, bigger, and house a lot of first-years. You’ll usually find people hanging out in the kitchens or common areas, and it’s very easy to make friends.

The Village is a little quieter and more laid back. It’s still social, but it has more of a chill, community feel, some students say it feels a bit more "homey." The kitchens are slightly smaller, and it’s about a 10–15 minute walk to the centre of campus, which some people actually like as a bit of downtime.

So if you're after that full-on, buzzing student experience, Barton/Hickling might suit you better. If you’d rather have a more relaxed social life but still get involved, The Village is still a great choice.
Let me know what vibe you’re after and I’m happy to help you weigh it up further!
