Confused about my future

Can anyone recommend me a masters degree I could do? I am currently a Biomed final year student I want to work in a hospital setting but no labs.
I would love some patient interactions too. I did apply for PA but I am glad I didn’t get accepted cuz of all that’s going on in the end I want to get a job not wait for a job.
So I would greatly appreciate if anyone’s could help 😊
PS I thinking perhaps radiography? But I don’t know if it’s interesting enough yk. I enjoy the brain a lot too
And also thought about neuroscience masters however it ends in labs

Hey there,

You could consider MSc Nursing (Adult or Mental Health) if you’re open to a career change, it allows direct patient interaction and guaranteed job prospects through the NHS. Radiography (Diagnostic or Therapeutic) is a solid option too, especially if you enjoy using technology in healthcare.

Since you’re interested in the brain, have you looked into MSc Physician Associate Studies (despite the current issues) or MSc Speech and Language Therapy? Both involve working closely with patients.
If you want something neuroscience-related without lab work, MSc Clinical Neurophysiology or MSc Neurorehabilitation might be worth exploring. Would you prefer a clinical role with direct patient care, or are you open to roles with a mix of diagnostics and patient interaction?

Currently in a similar situation. Have heard of the STP cardio physiology or neuro-physiology. The role involves contact with patient and deals with the diagnostic side. You are paid while u studying starting salary from band 6 and can go up to band 8a. However it’s very competitive.

Ok i will look into it! Same i wish we had some help regarding these future carriar plans, moreover my uni just told us at the end of my first year that biomed i am doing is not accredited, that’s why it’s more difficult. And i dont want to do research as it heavily depends on government grands. Thank you soo much for these ideas btw.

That’s okay I am in a similar situation but I did the undergrad Physician associate program and now unemployed so i have been looking into career alternatives such as the Accelerated programs (aka Radiographer, Dietician etc). I’ve done more research into the STP program and it’s very competitive some people get in on their 2-4th attempt so, I was thinking it would be a good idea to get a masters degree (nhs funded) -so u don’t have to pay much loan back, Once u get a masters if u still interested in STP program u can apply. You will have a better chance of getting in.

Have a look at the following link for all the Allied Health Professions (AHP) that you could consider:

https://www.england.nhs.uk/ahp/role/

Nursing, midwifery and AHP courses are exceptions for student finance so you have the option to take another undergrad course or a pre-registration masters and receive undergrad funding (both tuition fee and maintenance loans). A pre-reg masters is a condensed two-year version of the undergrad course. If you study at a uni in England, you would also be eligible for the NHS Learning Support Fund which offers an annual training grant of £5/6k per year plus other benefits:

Really? Is PA that bad as eveyrone makes it seem? My friend and I applied for PA, she got accepted whilst i was rejected i am feeling sad ngl, i am happy for her she was really happy that she got accepted. I wanted to do PA as you know close contact with patients and all, do you think things are gonna get better in the future for PA?

Hi @Yooyoy

Sorry I don't have any advice relating to biomedicine (I do economics) but I wondered if you've spoken to the Careers/Employability team at your uni? I was really confused about what I wanted to do post-undergrad and like you I sort of knew what I liked (interacting with others) and didn't like (travelling far from home). They helped me realise I needed to do a data science masters to get into the job field I want and even though at the time the thought of data science scared me, I'm really loving it now!

So it might help to just talk to them about what masters are open to you, or jobs you could go into that would help narrow down your choices. Otherwise I would have a look on things like LinkedIn, Indeed and Prospects.ac.uk to see what kind of jobs are out there!

Yes thank you for helping! Unfortunately I did go through my personal tutor who I think was joking but I it wasn’t very helpful told me to be a secretary receptionist or a janitor and the carrier advice was like soo pointless it literally made me even more confused all they did was listen and said well research more. The whole point of me doing the carrier advice is to seek advice. I am so confused and upset because of that
