UCL Economics and Business with East European Studies or KCL Economics & Management

Hi everyone,

As seen in the title, these are the two offers I am considering. For UCL Economics and Business with East European Studies BA (no year abroad) the offer I got is AAA, whilst for KCL Economics & Management BSc the offer I got is AAB (optional year abroad or year in industry). I have initially been almost 100% fixed on putting UCL as my firm and KCL as my insurance, but I have been a little hesitant lately. I would be really interested in a year abroad in Spain or the US, which KCL would offer, but UCL won’t (except year abroad in Eastern Europe if there is the chance for me to switch to the year abroad version on the course). In terms of rankings, UCL is 9th worldwide and my parents said I should select UCL, and other people I spoke to implied the same, but considering the two courses, I cant help but think whether the UCL course would put me at a disadvantage since it isn’t taught by the Economics department (taught be SSEES), most of the content is taught by SSEES, and there is no chance of a full year abroad in another country except one from Eastern Europe. On the other hand, KCL is ranked 26th worldwide, but would offer a year abroad in several countries including Spain and the US, it would allow me to integrate my course with international relations, psychology, law etc, and apparently the professors are really good (don’t know much about the professors at UCL’s SSEES).

I’m really at a crossroad right now and I don’t know what to pick considering factors like prestige, student experience, year abroad, academics, adaptability, long-term career prospect benefits. I would appreciate some advice. Thank you!

It sounds like you'd much rather go to KCL but others think you should go to UCL because of rankings. Honestly the ranking probabpy won't matter unless you want to go into IB or consulting in the future. I don't really know anything about employability but they're both great unis so u should be fine with either
