The Student Room Group

English NEA AQA

So I used ChatGPT for my coursework but didn’t directly copy and paste nor get it to write me an essay - instead I used it for quotes and for ideas which I further developed

Am I cooked?

They get sent off today to aqa and I got 15/25 from my teacher which is good for me considering I averaged E’s in my mocks
Have you asked your teacher for advice? Told them your scenario.

Can’t say I have no - my teacher spoke about AI to the class, she then said she got ChatGPT to write her a whole essay and she said it was mediocre, so I assumed when she meant use of AI she meant the AI writing the whole essay

Probably worth asking your teacher or checking with the exam board then (and telling them what you’ve said in your OP).

It’s a bit late for that as they’re getting sent off in the next 48 hours - do you think I’ll get done for malpractice? I ran it through scanners before sending it in and they said 0%

I have no idea, that’s why I’m suggesting that you ask your teachers/the exam board as they might have a policy.

Even if there’s only 48 hours left, might still be worth asking.

Honestly im nervous to go to the teacher but I believe the exam boards policy is anything above 10-15% AI is classed as malpractice - student last year got 65%

Just double check the this with the teacher/exam board then. This why it’s best to not use AI (excluding word spell check) without full approval first.

And I’ve found some guidance here:

Personally I think if what you wrote was your own words and you definitely only used AI to prompt you then I don't think they could fault you on it (just because since you didn't actually use 100% ai generated language so it's probably hard for them to know you used it). I don't think there's a rule against using ai in general. It's only a problem of the work you produce isn't actually your own work but the work of an ai. But it doesn't look like that's the case to me. You should probably check with your teacher's tho and get a professional opinion

I did my nea last year and also used chatgpt a fair bit. Mainly to help me get started and for some ideas. Though I pretty much did copy my introduction completely from chatgpt. Ai wasn’t detected and came out with an A. You’ll be fine
