Should I do geography A-level?

For someone who has done it/ doing it, would you recommend? No A-level is easy ofc but is it manageable? I need a 4th A-level and I like geography - also how much of a step up is it from gcse (I currently do AQA). Thank you!

Its a very useful A level subject - because most Unis will count it as both a science and a social science subject. Therefore its can often meet the science entry requirements for degrees like Psychology, but also has relevance/connections to subjects like Sociology, International Development etc. Highly recommended.

It was my easiest alevel by far. I know its different for everyone, but I found it barely a step up from gcse, just longer essays thats all. I only revised for an hour or so a day, two weeks before the real exam and came out with an A*. If you enjoy geography and can write a decent essay, you'll pass with flying colours:smile:

Hey! I'm currently in Year 13 doing A Level Geography, exams approaching soon... love to procrastinate the revision haha. What I love about Geography is that the classes are more relaxed (in my case anyway) compared to my other subjects, bio and chem. The step in content is not that hard and there's a lot more interesting topics with politics included etc. The NEA coursework was quite stressful but I think it's a really good skill to have, I've mentioned in my CV and interviews since doing it. That is something to consider though if your other 3 subjects are coursework heavy.

I really enjoy my A-Level Geography lessons. Spot of the content is GCSE with some new interesting topics that are added in. In your essays, you can also be really opinionated and the essays aren't that hard but the timings are quite difficult.

Hi @VaBook7
A Level Geography is a really well rounded subject that covers a wide variety of topic areas from across the whole geography discipline, and covers lots of skills like data presentation and analysis, presentation skills, teamwork skills which are all important to develop. While A Level geography was a step up from GCSE. Personally, i found the step up more manageable than other subjects like maths and sciences.
Maybe speak to your sixth form and ask what topics you will study and see if these interest you, as different sixth forms will follow different exam boards and topics.
Hope this helps!
