Mpharm Bath or Cardiff?

Hi,
I have offers from Cardiff and Bath to study pharmacy but wasn't sure which one to firm, I'm considering going into pharma and was wondering which university would provide me with the best opportunities for pursuing a career in industry? Ik, the fact that it doesn't matter which university you obtain the degree from as it is regulated by the GphC. However, I was wondering generally which is considered more prestigious?

Hiya!

Congratulations on your offers! I'm glad to hear you're interested in pharmacy!
I'm in my final year of pharmacy at Bath so hopefully I can provide some insight 🙂

Both Bath and Cardiff are excellent choices for pharmacy and I think either would provide you with good opportunities for your career. I would say they have similar reputations with employers. When I've been placed in various sectors around the South West, my supervisors have only had positive impressions of both universities. I imagine the main difference is that Cardiff has better links with employers in Wales, whereas Bath has better links in the South West, especially now we are running a pharmacy school in Plymouth.

To end up in a career in industry, I think it's helpful if you can get some kind of work experience / summer job in industry, regardless of which uni you're based at. Other than that, our employment after graduation is decided through a national scheme called Oriel, so what uni you attend is unlikely to have an impact on where you end up initially. There are places available in industry during that training year, although they are limited, so if you secure one of them that's definitely a good route into that sector.

I suggest making your decision based on where you would rather live and study. Definitely visit both campuses and cities if you can.

I hope that was helpful!
Lauren, University of Bath
