Low GCSE’s medicine uk

Hi, could anyone give me advice on applying to medicine in uk with average gcses/low gcses as it’s been really been giving me a lot of stress recently 😭 Any advice appreciated 🙏🏽🙏🏽

I’ve got 8777777765
8 - Biology
7 - Maths, english lit + lang, chem, physics.
5 was in spanish.

I know i meet minimum requirements for most uni’s but every uni i check they say they consider gcses and i don’t wanna be rejected bc of it.

UCL, Imperial, Bristol don’t look at gcses beyond minimum I know, but they require a really high ucat which i have not done yet so i don’t wanna rely on applying there.

Any advice on what other uni’s or suggestions on what to do?
Thank you !

Honestly your GCSEs aren’t that low and if you get a good UCAT and predicted grades you have a pretty good chance. If you google “MyUCAT Strategic Applications” a website will come up (guessandflag) and they have a pdf that shows all of the actual competitive requirements for each med school. I used it and got 3/4 interviews (I am really confused about the one I didn’t get because my stats were pretty competitive for that uni) but obviously the one on there right now is for 2025 entry. You will have to wait until August or September for universities to update and release their new entry requirements etc and for these people to make a new document (hopefully). I’m sure you could contact them to ask because they’re a UCAT prep company I think. I’m sure there are other places to look but this was by far the most in depth and concise information bank for this I found (I sound like I’m selling a product or something but it’s completely free it was just a very useful PDF).

Anyway, there are some universities that don’t look at GCSEs for their points system if you’re that concerned. The number one piece of advice I can give for applying to med is to apply strategically— it’s not like other courses where your chances are generally pretty good and universities are lenient.

Good luck for the future!

Hey there !

These are great results! For medicine, a lot of universities will have a minimum (with certain grades in certain subjects) and this is all you need to meet. Others may use it as a part of your application and therefore put more emphasis on it.
I would recommend contacting the universities you are interested in and asking how they use GCSE's as part of your application.
