Does Anyone Know Any Biology / Chemistry Competitions ?

I am in Year 11 and I am really interested in biology and chemistry. My dream would be to study something like biochemistry or biomedical science in Uni. I know that taking part in competitions could help boost your application, so I am wondering which ones I could take part in, either now or in a few years time.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi there,

I recommend looking at some of the Olympiads like the other user suggested. The two biggest that come to mind that are relevant for you are the UK Chemistry Olympiad (hosted by the Royal Society of Chemistry) and the British Biology Olympiad (hosted by UKBC). I also recommend looking into the Biochemical Society's Science Communication prize (I'd say is more valuable on your CV for the future considering the amount of scientific writing and outreach you'll likely do later on at both Uni and after). I've pasted a link for that here: Science Communication Prize

Hi there, here’s some advice for you.First of all, for any competition, you should try some pastpaper so that you will know the difficulty before you decide ifyou’ll participate it. For chemistry, an easiest choice is C3L6(Cambridge chemistry challenge lower 6th) from Cambridgeuniversity. It’ll be held in every June so if you want to take it,you should register as soon as possible. UKChO is also anice opportunity to challenge yourself but it’s just finished 2months ago so you should wait until next January. For biology, there’s a lot of interesting competitions toparticipate, for instance BBO/USABO/iGem etc. But unfortunately most of them are just terminated earlier this month so I’m afraid you should wait until next year.

Hope this help

Also check US medicine & disease olympiad, UK medicine & disease olympiad, british neuroscieance olympiad and international medicine and disease olympiad. They are all global championships for international students. Brain Bee is also prestigious and well-known. I use this list to fish for the competitions https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_BwAJtWQpvs01wbOwO91mNPn8iviEDqmTyobiGGoeoI/edit?gid=0#gid=0
