University Accommodation Help Please

I have had offers from all but one of my choices. I have reduced my options down to two universities.

One of those universities has offered me a place and one has put me on hold.

Ideally I would go to one currently on hold. As it is a top uni for my subject and I have always wanted to study at it.

But if I am not accepted then I don’t want to miss out on accommodation or have limited options at the other university as the window to apply for accommodation opens next week.

I thought about calling the uni that hasn’t confirmed yet to ask when I might hear a final decision or if I have a good chance of admission but I don’t want to harm my application.

I have also thought about calling the confirmed university to see if I can apply for accommodation anyway but after researching this seems unlikely will still try but is not really a solution as it is unlikely to work.

What would be my best course of action?

I feel pressure from family around me who just want me to confirm and want to know where I am going and that I have accommodation.

Have you checked how any of universities to which you've applied allocate accomodation? The reason I ask is they're not allowed to operate a "first-come first-served" scheme, or in any way give preferential treatment in terms of accomodation or accomodation availability to those who make their firm / insurance decision earlier than others. This rule exists specifically to avoid students in situations such as you are from feeling pressured into making a decision that they're not yet ready (or able) to take.

See this document from UCAS for further details.

As above - if any Uni is doing this, it is 'pressure selling' and forbidden by the UCAS agreement.
Please forward the email to UCAS asap. This wont impact your offer / place, it will just mean that all applicants can make a calm, sensible decision about where to go Firm without Unis playing silly games..

And since a) they wont allocate rooms until after Results Day, b) thousands of those who go Firm/apply for housing wont get the grades, will defer, cancel places, drop out, not turn up etc etc, and therefore 'their rooms' are back in the mix, there is actually no big problem with getting accommodation that means you have to apply right now.

WAIT for all your offers, and then think carefully about what you want to do and where you want to go.
