Finish Access course and do A level maths privately next year

So im 25+ and wanting to go back into uni, i really wanted to go back and go uni and study compsci, because i never went, so decided to do an Access Course. I will be completing my access course sometime this summer and got rejected 3/5 universities. The uni i really want to go to has a super competitive foundation year so im most likely going to get rejected from there as ive not heard back anything from them. Out of the other 4 uni left i only got one offer from a university that i really don't want to go to. The 3 rejections i got basically said my course didnt have enough maths modules.

Im wondering now should i take an extra year and sit A level maths privately and apply for university again but with A level maths this time and hopefully my application is a little bit stronger next year. Due to personal reasons i really want to get into a uni preferably in London or close enough to london.

Wanted some advice from previous access to HE applications and if doing an extra A level has help them when applying to stem courses.
Have you looked at what courses are available in Extra?

I would suggest emailing admissions for the universities you like and asking them how to strengthen your application. They will be able to tell you exactly what to do.

You’re definitely not alone Computer Science is very maths-heavy, so some universities do reject Access applicants if the course doesn’t include enough maths. But that doesn’t mean your journey ends here. There are still routes open to you this year, depending on which unis you target and whether you’d consider a foundation year.

Taking A-level Maths privately could strengthen your application for next year, but it’s not the only option some universities are more flexible with Access students and can still accept you now.

Even if you already have a degree, I can still help guide you through the whole process some universities actually offer fully funded second degrees in Computer Science. I can help you figure out the best options, applications, and Student Finance eligibility.

Do you already have a degree, or would this be your first one? And are you planning to apply for Student Finance? Knowing that will help me point you in the right direction.

Feel free to drop me a PM if you’d like to chat in more detail 🙂
