Working in healthcare with Mental Health problems

I was due to study paramedic science in 2021 but I had to cancel my place as I got very unwell with my mental health. It has always been my dream to be a paramedic, but I am having second thoughts if that would be the best for my mental health due to the 12+ hour shifts, nights and other things. Im now looking into studying midwifery as I do not have to work on the wards if I do struggle when I have graduated.

I wanted to know if anyone else, who struggles with thier mental health, has managed to do a job in healthcare and not burn out completly. On one hand I feel like healthcare is the only job for me but the other hand, I have to ensure is doesn't end up making me worse. I hear so many horror stories of nurses and students I do not want to risk my mental health for my job. I know it will be stressful and it will affect my mental health to some extent, I'm just not sure if im going to have to rethink my career or not.
