Problems with Student finance 2025/2026

Hello,
I’m currently trying to apply to student finance as an EU national.
The only loan I’m eligible for are tuition fees, which I need to apply by post. This is major problem as my university of choice is 3h away from my house, so I require student accommodation. I have recently just applied to change from pre settled status to settled status, which will allow me to take the maintenance loans. The only problem is that for almost 2 weeks my application is till “under consideration”. I’m scared I won’t be granted settled status before the deadline on the 31st of May.
What should I do???

I forgot to add that there isn’t a standard “waiting time” to switch, so it could take another week or even months..

Hi there,

The deadline is not an end date it's a 'soft guideline' that we advise students to apply by to avoid any delays in their funding. You do have 9 months from the start of your course to apply for the funding. Thanks, Jason
