S6 Subjects for Dentistry?

Hi, I’m in fifth year picking my options for my sixth year just now and am looking to apply for dentistry for 2026 entry. I know I’m definitely picking advanced biology and chemistry, but I’m unsure what else to take. I was thinking either advanced physics because I enjoy it but it would be a lot of work, or higher history + 1 other higher which I’m not sure about yet. Would anyone please be able to give some advice on what dental schools prefer or also what would be easier/harder?
What do the dental school websites say they require subject wise?
You're right to start with chem and bio, but you'll need to pay close attention to the different stipulations each dental school may have.

Thanks for your reply! My preferred uni would be Glasgow which just asks for advanced bio and chem, I tried emailing their admissions service about what subjects they’re looking for but they didn’t give me any info beyond that :/

That means they have no preference on subject beyond Bio and Chem.
If there is no further detail, it means there is no preference. What they will care about is the grades. So focus both on what do you enjoy and also what are you good at and will be more likely to achieve high grades in.

As long as you take advanced chemistry and biology, whatever else you take doesn't really matter.

Taking advanced higher physics might be good to show your strong academic ability to unis, but it is also a lot of unnecessary work as it isn't needed.

Taking higher history alongside another higher might be nice as it would give you a change of pace from all of the science (which is all you would be doing if you pick physics). It would give you a bit of variety in your timetable.

At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter whether you pick advanced higher physics or higher history. It's just up to how you feel about the subjects and their course load. Advanced higher chemistry and biology should be your main priority, so consider how well you'd manage the coursework for the other subjects alongside them.
