Which course has a work placement? This add heaps to your graduate CV.
Where will it be cheapest to live? Bath will be as expensive as living in London.
If you went to Open Days etc, which Uni felt the most comfortable, where will you feel the happiest?

What’s better for engineering in terms of employer reputation and in general?

Hi JibberJam,

I studied Physics at the University of Bath and did a placement year in an engineering firm. Personally, I have found that doing a 12 month placement made me a lot more desirable to employers as it showcases your ability to integrate into a workplace setting and hopefully have some output to talk about in interviews. My placement employer only offer to Uni of Bath students, the university has 100s of companies that only search for interns here. Nottingham may have similar - perhaps their website mentions placements?

I would highly recommend looking at the university engineering courses and compare which has the best course to align with your interests. Here is Bath's:

Echoing what McGinger said below, Open Days are a great way to see if you like a university if you are able to. Alternatively, Bath host online Open days: https://www.bath.ac.uk/campaigns/undergraduate-virtual-open-day/. Coming to the Bath open day is what convinced me to study here, and I love it! It's cliché but I had a gut feeling that I would feel comfortable here.

The reputation of the university isn't the be all and end all - although league tables generally reflect how highly regarded a University is. Bath University is ranked 7th or 8th in all 3 top University League Tables for 2025 (the Times, Complete University Guide, the Guardian). You can also search for course specific league tables as well which may help you decide.
