experiences with foster care
hi! I don’t know where else to ask this so does anyone have experience either being a foster carer or growing up in the UK care system? and if so, what should I expect as a potential foster carer in London/ is there anything I should know going in and how long are the placements?
I saw a flyer at a local library I’d never been to before and it’s been on my mind ever since. I’m 30, work for myself, have no kids but have always worked with kids and vulnerable adults, and I’m really considering applying for short-term placements as a remand foster carer starting in the summer (but open to other short term possibilities). I know my partner and I would be a great fit and want to start a family once we’re married but I want to be prepared and learn more before fostering before officially applying. Also I’ll be going back to university in Sept but I don’t mind a placement overlapping with it; I know I could wait a few years but I believe I was meant to see the remand flyer now and be a good home for a child sooner rather than later
