Accommodation

Which accommodation might be best to choose for a prospective medical student? Are there any in thr campus that medical students tend to book? I do understand it is a personal choice; however have noted some Unis have blocks where most med students would stay together. How soon should the rooms be booked?

Hi there,

That’s a really good question, and it’s great that you’re thinking ahead; it definitely helps to feel comfortable and well-placed in your first year of Medicine!

At UEA, there isn’t a dedicated “med student only” accommodation block, but a lot of medical students tend to choose on-campus options, especially in The Village and Norfolk Terrace. The Village is popular because it has a bit more of a quiet, residential feel and is still within walking distance of the Bob Champion Building, where many of your clinical sessions and anatomy teaching will take place. It’s also known for being a favourite among students who want a balance between social life and study.

If you’re someone who likes your own space and having an en-suite, places like Crome Court or Barton and Hickling might be ideal; they're newer, quieter, and a little further out from the social buzz but very modern.

As for when to book; accommodation at UEA opens quite early in the year for firm offer holders, and the most popular options (like en-suite rooms in The Village) can get taken up quickly. I’d recommend applying as soon as UEA sends you the accommodation application email, especially if you’ve got specific preferences.

And if you're not sure yet, that’s totally okay; UEA has a great accommodation team who can help you weigh up the options based on your study habits and lifestyle. Let me know if you’d like help comparing a few in more detail!

Dear Daniel,

Your response has been really useful. My query has been for my daughter. She would like an en-suite room close to the lectures and also within the social hub would be great. She would also like a modern accommodation; with good storage space:

It would be great with the above requirements, if you could help me compare between the apartments to make up our best decision.

So I assume ‘The Village’ might be ideal. Looking forward to your response.

Many thanks .

Hi there,

Thanks for your message; really glad the info helped! Based on what your daughter’s looking for, I’d recommend looking closely at Crome Court or Barton House. Both are modern, en-suite, and offer great facilities, with Crome being slightly closer to the medical school. Yet, these are slightly more expensive compared to the Village flats. Here is a full breakdown of facilities and prices: https://www.uea.ac.uk/uea-life/accommodation/en-suite-campus

Best of luck,
Daniel
