English lit a level

I just got a B for my last year 13 mocks for English lit a level, is this a bad grade? And is it possible to go up one grade in one month

Well there’s a difference between an A and a B in regards to grade boundaries

I guess it depends what you plan to do after your A Levels, but generally a B is not a bad grade at all. I got a B in English Lit and it didn't stop me from getting accepted into the uni I wanted or anything, so it depends on your personal circumstances

I recommend focusing on what went wrong and what went well.

I went from a D in Y12 to a B in my Y13 mocks to an A* in my real exam.

It's never too late!

I'm not sure which part you're referring to, but I'll answer them both.

"I recommend focusing on what went wrong and what went well'

Look at your feedback and see where you did well and what you did well, then keep trying to replicate where you did well.

target your weak spots

keep doing essays and keep getting them marked

reading articles on your texts helps

To be honest, I was a little surprised that I managed to get an A*. I wasn't a particularly motivated student and never really paid attention in class. I never revised English because I absolutely hated doing exam questions (on top of the fact that I was doing History and Religious Studies, which were very content-heavy so I put more focus into those 2 subjects rather than English), so by the time my exams rolled around, I had only remembered some quotes to take into my exam the morning of for Paper 1. I never revised Paper 2. Overall, I did 40 minutes of revision for my 2 papers. (Don't do this by the way!!! )

With that being said, I did have a tutor and he'd set me 1 small task per week that I did, and they genuinely did help me a lot. I also did all the homework set for me in class.

Additionally, I always had varied grades. I was always stuck at a 16/25 for my essays up to Y13 (with 1 24/25 and quite a few 12/13 marks), however, I knew I wasn't a D grade level. During GCSEs I was achieving 5s/6s, but I still ended up achieving a 9. I think I was just an exception, to be quite frank. My biggest tip is to just keep doing essays, though.

Hope that helps.

This probably isn’t very helpful but I didn’t really do much.

I had a tutor who was really helpful + I wrote a lot.

I will say though, revise quotes. Going in to the exam, I had 15 quotes for all the main and minor-ish characters. I also was really good analysis so that helped a lot.

If you want structures that I followed, I can help with that. I was bad at essay writing so following set structures really helped.
