its not what you do that makes you stand out, it's how you treat the resources that you have and how you reflect on it in your personal statement. Do whatever you think is best for your course and get an outstanding EXPERIENCE TO TALK ABOUT out of it.

Hi @candyloversweet

The best thing you can do in your personal statement is to make a true and genuine reflection of yourself, your experiences and achievements, and your aspirations. You want your writing to be formal, but also to sound like your voice coming through your writing.

I would suggest getting a list together of everything you can think of that you have done, such as your education, extra curricular activities, work experience, achievements, hobbies, etc. Then you can start picking out your highlights and 'best bits' to include in your statement. Remember, you don't need to have things that directly link to your chosen degree subject, as many of the things you've done will have transferable skills you can apply to your course.

Your statement will stand out if you showcase your ability and passion for your chosen subject, and back up your interest by including your experiences.

Best of luck.

Hey!

I honestly think one of the most important things you can do in your personal statement is to let your personality come through. At the end of the day, universities get a lot of applications every year so you're not just competing on qualifications, you're also trying to show who you are and what makes you different.

Of course, it's important to mention your achievements, but what really makes a statement stand out is when you talk about why you're interested in the subject and what sparked that interest. Think about moments where you explored the topic outside of school maybe you read something, watched a documentary, took an online course, or had a conversation that made you think deeper. Admissions tutors want to see that you're genuinely curious and motivated.

Even if you haven’t done an undergraduate degree yet, you can still show that you've gone the extra mile. Maybe you've done a short course, volunteered, taken part in a school project, or had a part-time job where you developed relevant skills. It doesn’t have to be huge what matters is how you reflect on the experience and link it back to the subject you want to study.

There’s always something unique about your journey, and that’s what you should lean into. Whether it’s a challenge you've faced, something you've taught yourself, or a goal you’re working towards include that. Make it personal, make it real, and most importantly, make it you!

Hope this helps & best of luck with it!
