Studying business management at university

Although I achieved pretty good results my first semester 70%,68%,74% but I was just asking since my degree so assignment and group presentation based I wanted to if I need to learn the lectures because I feel like my lecture are unrelated to some of my assignments but next year I will be specialising into Hr so will learn the modules about hr anyways so anyone doing this degree or similar degree do you learn the content as well since there is no exams?

Hi!

I am currently studying business management at LJMU and I understand what you are saying with feeling like some of the content isn't that related to some of the assignments. However, my best advice is to keep on top of all the lectures and the notes as you never know what will come in handy whether it's for group work, reports, essays etc.

The content in the lectures is being taught for a reason so there will always be something that requires you to know the information. Not going to the lectures could mean you miss out on something important and that might affect you further down the line.

I know it feels difficult sometimes, especially if you think it's not very relevant information but keeping at it and keeping up to date with all the notes and lectures will 100% benefit you!

Good luck with the rest of your course, let me know if there's anything else you would like to discuss. I am more than happy to help!

Thanks, Matt 😊

Hello there!

I’m studying International Business Management, and like your course, it’s also assignment- and presentation-based. Even though you might feel like some lecture content isn’t directly related to the assignments, it’s still worth engaging with it, here’s why:

Context & Understanding: The lectures often give a broader view or theory that helps you critically analyse in your assignments. Even if it’s not 1:1 related, referencing key concepts can strengthen your arguments.

Future Modules: Since you’re specialising in HR next year, the foundations you’re learning now, such as organisational behaviour, strategy, or people management - are super useful later on. You’ll already have that head start.

Grades & Referencing: Lectures often point you toward useful academic theories, models, or case studies that can boost your assignment quality and referencing. Even if not all slides are directly linked, they usually help shape your approach.

You don’t necessarily need to memorise everything like you would for an exam, but understanding and applying the key ideas from lectures will still help your work feel more grounded and professional. Plus, it will make your transition into HR modules easier!

You are doing great already with your first semester marks, keep going!

I hope this helps!

Kind regards,
