Dead TSRians?

Bit of a morbid question but how many active TSRians do we think might have died over the years?

It must be quite substantial, given how many people have had an account on TSR and how active some members have been.

I would assume a very small amount. Most people who create accounts are between 14-20. Student room opened in 2001. So that would mean the older set would be around 44 and there wasn’t a significant amount who joined at the beginning. In a post 8 years ago they predicted around 2 million users. I would say with the increase of technology access that number would be around 10 million. TSRians deaths most likely would be something to a disease or accidents (such as a car crash etc). 1.5 million adolescents out of 1.3 billion adolescents die per year to diseases. That percentage is 0.115. However to assume for accidents I’ll make it 0.117. Now that would be 11700 users are dead however I’m going to x4 that figure for Covid to get 46800 dead TSRians.

Ar least with you here daily we know you're not yet amongst them.

That's awful. I do hope his family/friends are at peace with what has taken place. He seems like a good person and contributed a lot.

I would love to say my figure is higher than the true answer however Covid keeps on lurking in the back of my mind. The best way for me to have a somewhat decent guess is to know how many accounts there are as a different article said we are about to hit 2 million which would mean 8960

A former X-Soc (Christian Soc) member, D (she was on TSR *many* years ago). D sadly passed away from a brain tumour in 2021. She didn't make it to her thirtieth birthday and had to pull out of her PhD due to her diagnosis.

D is much missed and I dedicated my own PhD thesis to her :moon:

I hope you've recovered okay! Glad you finished your PhD as well!

Awful. Glad to see that a trust has been been set up in his memory.

That seems to be a very accurate estimate!

Think she was in her 60s or 70s? I might be making that up though. I didn't realise she had passed away, that's so sad ☹️

I don't know that she died, but her exit from the site was sudden and I unfortunately suspect it.
