Marine Conservation Msc

Anyone know what the marine conservation Msc is like at Plymouth University. Looking into applying, but would like some entail from anyone who does it already. Thanks!
Hi there! Great to hear you're interested in Plymouth! 😊

I'm currently an undergraduate student studying Zoology BSc so, although I'm not a postgraduate studying this course, I do have lots of experience along the marine side of the university, so if you have any specific questions I can answer, feel free to let me know! 😄

We do also have a couple of MSc students (though not from the same course) on our Unibuddy site along with staff members to chat to, if you have any specific questions for postgraduate students.

For now, I can give you some overview information as to why I chose Plymouth and why studying marine conservation is ideal at a specialist university for this course area!

Plymouth is great for studying marine courses as it's just minutes away from the first National Marine Park and has such a high concentration of marine biologists, researchers, specialist facilities, and related organisations, such as the MBA and Ocean Conservation Trust.

The university really utilises the local marine habitats and spaces for their courses, taking students out on their 3 boats, to local sites of interest (like rocky shores or estuaries), as well as on field trips further out.

Plymouth has a specialist marine station in the harbour, dedicated to marine courses, teaching, and research, with facilities like 3x specialist vessels, survey equipment, wet labs, learning spaces, scuba facilities, and more, as well as a wave tank and marine building on campus too.

For Marine Conservation MSc, >90% of graduates obtain a job in the marine conservation sector within a year of graduating, and it's the only UK MSc programme in existence to focus on marine conservation in practice, delivered in partnership with a suite of regional, national and international marine conservation practitioners.

The university is also ranked top 15 in the UK and top 100 globally for Earth and Marine Sciences in the QS World University Rankings 2023.

I personally chose the city because of these great facilities on offer and such an incredible location by the sea so if you're able to visit, check out one of the postgraduate open evenings coming soon! 🙌

Best of luck and if you have any questions, feel free to reach out! 😁
