University Choices

Which university should I pick, Uni of Leicester or ARU Peterborough. Both have their pros and cons eg:
Peterborough has smaller class sizes meaning more one to one, the lead lecturer worked at Clifford Chance and associates with various international law firms, and it’s my home city so an easier commute. Leicester has a larger law society and has links with all magic circle law firms. I want to make the decision in regards to post graduation and the process of applying. Any help??

Hello,

My best advice is to go with your gut instinct, go where feels best. This is what I did and I have never looked back.

Leicester is extremely friendly and the Law school have connections with many solicitor firms and barrister chambers. Our lecturers are often subject experts, one previously working for the government research group and we also have a few practising and qualified lawyers who do a substantial amount of teaching. Many of the Leicester Law academics have also written the textbooks we use, which are in many cases leading textbooks and so you really are being given a state of the art education.

As well as the law society which hosts loads of competitions, careers talks etc we also have the pro bono society which is amazing. I work in the Legal Advice Clinic which provides me with valuable skills and experience in the practical side of law.

I hope this helps and if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to let me know.

Hello!

If you are interested in applying to top commercial law firms then I would definitely recommend Leicester! It has really good connections with law firms so there are frequently application/career talks from visiting firms. As the post from my colleague Charlie mentioned, there is a lot to get involved with at Leicester and this can really help make applications stand out! I managed to secure a Vacation Scheme at a Magic Circle firm as a Leicester Law student so it definitely is possible.

However, I agree with other users that you also have to take into consideration where you will be happier. Perhaps go to Offer Holder Days at both universities to see which you can see yourself at more!
