Can the school at least give you a list of the companies which previous year 13s have done placements with so you can approach them directly? It seems really strange that they are not supporting you considering the occupational specialism is a mandatory part of the course. If all else fails it might be worth speaking to the exam board to confirm if the school is even allowed to run the course without supporting the placement.

Very odd that they are doing NONE of the legwork.. my college and all the ones i looked at had industry links ready to go. Regardless, when approaching companies make sure to let them know that GOV is funding necessary risk assessments etc for the company to be able to take on a student (assuming it is relevant and you are U18 ). If not im pretty sure there is some other sort of financial incentive for the employer. Further, it is possible for your school to "simulate" a placement with a brief from a "real" company. We had someone on a simulated placement just doing general tech work for the school. Plus its only really a checkbox on the pearson portal. No one is gonna actually check you did 315 hours or anything.

hope that helps
