Hi Rubybx!

I'm currently in my second year and lived in St John Central, so if you have any questions about living there I'd be happy to answer. If you're looking to make friends with people who are in the same building or course as you, I'd have a look on Facebook as there's usually a fresher's page for each upcoming academic year. I joined a WhatsApp group chat for the entire building of Central (though it was mostly people complaining about fire alarms!) and for my course year group through the Facebook group. I met some of my flat-mates and a couple of course-mates through Facebook this way before I even started!

I hope you enjoy it!

Hi i have a couple 9f questions if you don't mind answering?
Is there room in the bedroom for a small fridge?
Is it key fob entry or a key?
Are pots and pans and cutlery already there?
Is the laundry in the building and is it 24 hours?
Thanks any help appreciated

of course!

1.

The large desks do typically have room for a small fridge if you wanted to bring one, but I vaguely remember there being some rules in the tenancy agreement about not being allowed "kitchen appliances" in bedrooms. I'd check on your tenancy agreement (and if it doesn't say, email the accommodation team) before bringing one in.

2.

The door to the building is a fob. The door to your flat is a unlocked with a key, and your key will unlock your bedroom door but not anyone else's.

3.

No pots or pans or anything like that provided other than a microwave. That's pretty standard for most student accommodations, and sometimes even microwaves aren't provided. Bigger and more expensive furniture like fridges etc. are already there for use amongst flat-mates. I'd hold back from buying a toaster and a kettle until you meet your flat-mates and you can organise who's buying what, lest you end up with 6 kettles and 6 toasters.

4.

The laundry facilities are on the ground floor near the entrance and are unlocked 24/7, and they're paid using contactless payment and are between £1-£3ish a cycle, depending what you want. They're shared through the whole building but I've never had any trouble finding free washing machines and dryers to use.

Hope these helped  let me know if you think of anything else!
