Masters Funding Rejection

I have recently been rejected by student finance for postgrad masters funding. They have said it is due to the 6 months I spent outside of the UK on my year abroad in 2022. Even though my year abroad was a compulsory part of my undergraduate degree, SFE have said this makes me ineligible for a masters loan. Has anyone else experienced this and how did you get around it? Many thanks!

HI there,

Did we ask for evidence to show that your time outside the UK was of a temporary nature? Did you submit this evidence and was it not approved?

Thanks, Drew

Hi Drew! Thank you for your response! I have contacted my uni to try and get evidence for this but I'm still waiting to hear back from them and SFE have also told me I must send everything as a physical copy so I'm concerned the whole process is going to take a long time. Is this something that is likely to be approved if I can find all the necessary evidence? Thanks

Hi there,

As it is a postgraduate application all evidence must be posted to us. If you have evidence that shows your break in residency was temporary then there should be no issue with it being approved.

Thanks, Drew

Hi Drew,
My old university have said the only thing they can do is send a confirmation of award letter which would say I had a year abroad as part of my degree. Is this acceptable evidence? If not, would you be able to suggest what other types of documentation SFE are looking for?
Thanks

Hi there,

Do you have any temporary visas or temporary work contracts? Do you have access to evidence of your flights and do you have evidence that shows you kept a link to the UK such as bank statements and evidence of paying bills in the UK?

Thanks, Drew
