Strathclyde or Stirling for Scots Law?

Hey!

I am struggling to choose between Uni of Strathclyde and Uni of Stirling for Scots Law. I have unconditional offers for both. I know it’s ultimately a decision that only i can make, but i would appreciate any input - i suck at making decisions.

Strathclyde was my second choice after Edinburgh (unfortunately i was rejected) however after visiting stirling on offer holder day, i really loved it. Stirling campus is beautiful and has a sense of community. Its seems peaceful which i think would be good for studying which obviously law requires a lot of. I struggle making friends easily and as stirling uni is just outside of Stirling i figure that it’s easier to meet people because you’re kinda stuck there with them on campus? Whereas in glasgow people are always coming and going. If that makes sense.

Strathclyde ranks higher for law so I think it would be daft to decline. Similar to stirling, i liked the campus. The quietness of stirling uni is appealing for focus on my degree however i also love the buzz of the city.

Travel is my main con with strathclyde. I live 2+ hours from glasgow which makes going home a hassle. My parents won’t be able to pick me up very often and the train prices are ridiculous. I know i can get a bus but i get travel sick haha.

So yeah, i’m on the fence and would love some opinions. Is anyone else going to / at strathclyde or stirling? How are you finding it?

Thanks!

Hey Anon! Congrats on your offers 😀 Sorry I've just got around to seeing this thread today.

I know it can feel stressful trying to decide which is the best fit for you! One of the best things to do if you can is visit both campuses again for a campus tour/offer holder day which you're already in the process of doing. This lets you get another sense of the uni and ask more questions to help with your decision making.

We have a great Law School with a strong reputation, and you'd be part of a large cohort where you'll meet lots of people in the same boat as you. While we are located in a busy city I'd say it's still easy to meet people and make friends too. We run social events year round, and you can get involved with clubs and societies to meet other likeminded students. There's hundreds to choose from, and can be related to your course (eg Law society) or something you want to do for fun (eg knitting/crochet!) as well as lots of other things. We're still a campus uni even though we're based in the city - and I think we still have a nice 'community' feel because of this 🙂 If you'd like to try and look to speak to some of our students there might be some LLB students on Unibuddy you can reach out to.

Don't worry about declining an offer because the course ranks higher though. The best course for you is going to be the one that you'll love more, and are therefore more likely to do well in. Pick a university you can see yourself at for the duration of your studies 🤗 For something like law - you'll be looking to achieve an LLB and it's unlikely employers will concern themselves with rankings (as they're hiring you and not the league table!).

You've got two great options here and I'm sure you'll do amazingly wherever you pick! Let me know what you decide to do. Good luck! 🙏
