Newcastle Uni 2025

Hey, I'm going to Newcastle from September and wanted to ask what the student life is?

I'm not a fan of clubbing and don't really like drinking however I don't mind going to pubs and bars w mates. Is it quite rare for ppl to not drink at uni and is it hard to socialise if you don't drink?

I feel like it'll be hard to make friend if I don't drink or go clubbing so really neevous ☹️

Newcastle’s student life is class, even if you’re not into clubbing! Loads of societies, cosy pub quizzes, and exploring the city—live in the student accommodation Newcastle often hosts film nights or board game socials. Plenty of non-drinkers about, you’ll be sound!

find something to do, the uni is always on strike , My kid suffered strikes in Y1 and in y3 , 3 months of strikes. The degree is devalued now so make sure you do your research properly.

Hi @anonymous #1,

I am a recent Newcastle University graduate and I would urge you not to worry too much about this! When I came to Uni, I was shy and concerned about making friends too. The main thing to note is most other people are in the same boat! Everyone is eager to make friends and meet new people. You will find people interested in the same things as you and societies are a great way to do this - we offer over 160 and 70 sports clubs you can join at any level. The sober-socials society is quite popular too!

I hope this is helpful, let me know if you have any specific questions! 🤗
