How does applying for accommodation work?

can you only apply for accommodation once you’ve firmed one of your offers? And can you only appply for accommodation for your firm? My school has literally explained none of the uni application process so slightly confused.

Hi, for most Universities you can apply for accommodation once you have firmed your offer either conditional or unconditional. You may want to contact the University you have been offered to confirm the process with them

Hello lollytmi,

Have you checked out this handy guide from UCAS? It tells you how applying for accommodation works.

In my case, I firmed my university then I applied online via an online portal.

Also what university are you looking to get accommodation from?

Once you have entered your Firm choice on UCAS, it will take at least 24 hours for that to be processed at UCAS and sent on to that Uni. You will hen see your decisions against those choices on UCAS Hub - and your other choices/offers will have disappeared.

Unis open their accommodation applications at different times - some may not open theirs until after the May offer deadline, and some others are even later. So - dont worry of you dont receive an email about accommodation immediately. Look on that Unis website to find information about their dates / deadlines etc.

Most Unis do not allow Insurance applicants to apply for accommodation at this stage. Only if you are rejected by your Firm on Results Day, and your Insurance then accepts you, will you receive an email about their accomodation
