UCL vs KCL for Politics

Extremely grateful to have recieved offers for both UCL pol+ir and KCL Bsc Political economy. really conflicted as UCL is ranked really high, but KCL seems to have a really highly ranked politics department too. which one should i choose? also, in terms of employability, which one is better if i wanted to go into consulting (ish) or analyst positions?

Really difficult to choose.

Take a look at the course modules to see which you like more. KCL has modules on war and conflicts that are unique.

Rankings are just marketing fluff. They can never tell you if you will like being at that University or enjoy that course. And mainstream employers do not rank graduate applications on the basis of 'which University'. Neither KVL or UCL can guarantee you a fabulous career - or lifelong happiness,

Pick the University with the most interesting course, where there is an opportunity for a work placement or study abroad, that has the sort of atmosphere where you will feel comfortable.

Hi Anom,

Congratulations on your offers! 🎉

Picking the right university can be hard, but I'm happy to share some advice I personally used:

Attend an Open day🗺️ - This can be an huge deciding factor for which university to attend. Discovering if the campus is what you desire, do you enjoy the "vibe" and how did you find the taster sessions? Additionally, you can use this time to ask questions to current students about their experience, alongside tutors about the course and career prospects.

Distance 🚗 - Do you want to be closer or further from home?

Modules 📖 - Are the modules different? If so which will you enjoy more? You could check this out on the official university course pages and see what exactly you will be studying each year, alongside optional modules.

Societies 👥- Are there any particular societies you would be excited to join and in particular is there a politics society? You could check this on the universities student union website.

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions,
-Sophia (University of Central Lancashire)

Attend an Open Day? They already have OFFERS.

And anyone going to UCL or KCL is not going to make the decision about where to Firm based on 'societies'.....

Some would decide on their offers based on ‘societies’, vibe and social life.
