german speaking answers

not sure if I’m allowed to ask but does anyone who has already done their german gcse have any phrases for speaking to make my answers sound more ‘natural’? My answers are 2-3 sentences long for each question but my teacher keeps saying it’s not enough even though she gave me an 8 in speaking anyways.

My favourite way to sound natural while speaking is to hesitate a little- the exam boards generally will penalize you if you sound rehearsed. When I was in Germany on an exchange I picked up the habit of saying 'also...' possibly too much while I'm thinking, and my teacher told me it made me sound like a native in the exam. Also you can act a little bit- even if your answer is 'the environment is important to me because...' you can start it with a little 'ja natuerlich' (yes, of course) just to add to the conversational feel. If that's all fine and it's just answer length which is the issue, you could try including some other people to also show off your verb conjugations and your opinion phrases ('It's important to me, but my brother thinks that...' is a good example). It depends how long your sentences already are, but don't be afraid to list a little once in a while or use a good old 'um... zu' clause. Best of luck and congrats on your 8!
