Asking previous driving instructor for advice

I had a driving instructor a couple of years ago, she was chilled and lovely, but struggled to teach me roundabouts, next instructor I had was great, but he retired, the instructor I've got now sometimes has me nervous and feels like I'm often getting worse not better.
I want to ask my first instructor (who has pulled away from working for this company) how my basic driving was, as this one keeps saying I'm too close to parked cars or too far away, I can't do right for doing wrong.
Would it be cheeky to ask my first instructor for her advice?

Not something I would do tbh if you decided to go with another business. If you're unhappy, find another instructor - nothing wrong with trying out a few.

I've changed instructor completely and gone onto automatic. He said I would've passed ages ago in manual if I'd had the right instructor who wasn't finicky and dragged lessons out.
But time wise I felt I needed to make it as easy as possible, lessons are much more chilled

I love that you think an instructor from a couple of years ago remembers what your driving was like - I'd be surprised if they even remember who you are!

Good luck with the automatic, hope you mange to pass soon.

They're a friend, so yes, they do remember me

My driving instructor kindly remembered me from four or five years ago, which was a pleasant surprise.

If they are a friend, why do you need the internet's permission to ask them?!

I think they're just asking for advice mate 👍

Asking simply enough if they remember any issues with your road positioning or had any advice is ok, but possibly they won't recall anything useful.

It would be a bit inappropriate to to start asking them loads of stuff though or expecting any significant effort, it is a business/someone's time after all (As a sole trader myself you do have be a bit ruthless in shutting people down who are asking for free services/advice esp if there is paying work to be done)
