Unit 7 BTEC applied science may 2025

Hi is anyone doing this exam soon im really confused, will we be able to use google in the section A and if so just our usual devices? Also will we be given seperate papers to note take for the article if anyone has an example of notes they have done and show me that would be very useful thanks. Also since section B is 1 hour and 50 mins how long should we spend on each question?

Hi, so we are allowed to use laptops for section A, as for my school, my usual teacher will invigilate us and will keep our phones at the front. For section B, I have been given a guide sheet for how long to spend on each, I can share some of the notes, if it will be helpful. And this unit 7 is pretty much all about writing skills like gcse English, not much revision, just know how to word everything well, follow the writing strategy.

Hi, by writing strategy I meant start by checking the what is asking, like explain or evaluate, so you know how to answer.Use a structure like PEE: make your point, back it up with evidence, and explain it. Always link your answer to the scenariothey give you this is key for higher marks. Use proper scientific terms, not casual words. Keep an eye on time based onhow many marks the question’s worth, and don’t write more than you need to. At the end, double-check you’ve answeredthe question and used the right terms. Simple structure, clear answers, and sticking to the point really helps. If you add meon ig: himrapervezz, I can send you the time management table provided to me, and more tips.

Can someone explain what you are and not allowed to do because I’m so confused?

What do you mean? Can you clarify a little bit more pls, there’s nothing to be confused, just make sure you time manage your answers so you don’t lose any time as it can take time. And make sure to use right scientific wording, and mention which article your taking your answer from if ykwim. I’m sorry if it’s confusing 🥲

I’m talking about part A , like can’t you literally just write the answer for the notes or is that cheating?

Ohh you do take notes and write whatever you can fit in 2 A4 paper on both sides which makes it 4. Whatever you can fit, choose to write or type on laptop and teacher will print. My teacher mentioned it’s best to not write your answer there because they can ask for your notes from school and mark you as fail which has never happened but to stay safe, just make sure to word it differently I could say bc I do write up like that too. for question 5 , I don’t know if we are able to note down or not I’m not sure I can tell you tmr!

thanks for answering me earlier, also do u think this unit can be an easy merit if u note take effectively? i think we cant write in full sentences so im planning to do my notes like mini PEER paragraphs but really summarised because i'm scared of being disqualified if the notes are too detailed so for the first question which i struggle on the most id do it like 'climate change impact animal migration' sea levels + extreme weather = unhabitable, force wildlife, reflection of human activities, reduce genetic diversity + quality - other organisms suffer, impacts predators ability to find food' is that right or should i add more detail?

Hi! I am personally going to be typing as my writing is quite bad and take lots of spaces, to save more space for notes typing up is good making the font small size, the teacher gets the note sent and they print it out for us. And for question 1 I struggle a lot too, I got feedback from MOCK and got a M, it’s not hard to achieve. I will like to show you how to do note taking, I can send you what I’ve been provided if you don’t have notes like that. Also you can write as much as you want as long as it is fits on the required paper which is more than enough if you make a good of use it. Don’t copy paste your notes to answer, write down key definitions that will help to build your answer. KEY TIP: for me we r doing note taking next week and will be done and have a week before our exam to practice at home if we want as we alr know q 1-4. Some people are able to remember most of the answer and just vomiting it out on the exam day.

Yes please if u could send me what uve been provided for note taking that would be really useful- ive not done anything today due to burn out but ive been practicing note taking in the style i sent u like 'climate change impact animal migration' sea levels + extreme weather = unhabitable, force wildlife, reflection of human activities, reduce genetic diversity + quality - other organisms suffer, impacts predators ability to find food' - do u think this style of note taking is allowed or is that too detailed? because i know u mentioned only doing key definitions. And yes im also planning to go home and practice answering as we'll know the articles and hopefully ill manage to fully remember atleast 2 questions and for question 5 im not entirely sure if itll be based on the articles or just something random. sorry if this is a lot

Hey if you add my ig: himrapervezz I can send you the pictures of the guidance booklet. And your answer style is so short compared to how much I write so you have nothing to worry about. Do not stress that much it isn’t an hard unit, surely you’ll be finee:smile:

Hi everyone. I am a lecturer for this exam and I can confirm a fe things for you:

During Part A, you will have a copy of the articles and access to the internet via a laptop or computer. you are encouraged to carry out your own research in addition to reading the articles to help you with answering the questions in Part B. Independent research is particularly helpful for Questions 2 and 4.

During part A you can make up to 4 sides of A4. Pearson specify you shoul bd writing down key definitions, dates, etc., but not writing out your answers; you can be disqualified for this and it could trigger an investigation that can affect the whole class. Pearson can ask to see your Part A notes for up to 3 years after the exam!

Having a timing plan is very helpful during Part a and Part B.

Question 5 will always be based on the topic covered in the articles. The only thing that will change from paper to paper is your target audience, and therefore expected writing style.
