Your mum jokes..?

Guys, please. I am 18, and I have some friends who still say to each other the your mum joke, I never allowed them to make jokes like these when speaking to me.

Do you guys find your mum jokes funny? If so, how is it funny!!!

Like, I feel it's very offensive when someone jokes about your mum or dad. But some people don't

I am not from England, and I lived in England for 7 years and still don't get how It's funny.

I was brought up here, and I agree with you. Personally, I've never really found "Your Mum" jokes funny; I especially don't find them funny now as I lost my mum some years ago, so if anyone were to say to me, "Your mums a ****" I'm likely to react in a very adverse and physical way to them (if you get what I mean).

However... it's long been a schoolyard thing, where kids (mainly lads) will take the micky out of each other by insulting them in various ways (in my day, it was called "cussing" each other)… it's like a competition as to who has the funniest or cleverest put-downs. I'm not sure how or why mums became a popular target (particularly against any other relatives (dad, siblings etc.)), I suppose it's because it's because it's easier to get at someone close to them, rather than attacking them directly.

Personally, people can say whatever they want (within reason) about me, and I can give it back, so that's all good. I never have and never will make jokes about peoples mums, but I do get it's part fo laddish banter, so they can carry saying them to each other and I just leave them to it. Most of my friends know my feelings on the matter, so they never include me in that, or direct any of their "jokes" towards me.

I’m 30, most people I know will throw in a ‘your mum’ every so often and get a laugh.

I don’t think we’ll ever grow out of it tbh.

Omg that is so interesting to hear 😄
Thanks for sharing.
My sons use "your mum" jokes to each other... in front of me.

🙄

Absolute dingbats 🤣

It's fine, they're not being serious at all. They're really sweet boys and I know jolly well that they all love me.

My youngest son immediately adds (I'm kidding) on the end.

My middle son is a very sensitive soul who instantly feels bad if he's jokingly insulted someone so he follows up with a hug and a sorry, and says he feels bad, even though I tell him it's fine and I know it's just a joke.

Eldest son roasts me incessantly anyway calling me short so I've just taken to roasting him back.

I have a very good relationship with my kids so if they throw "your mum" jokes at each other I really don't care.

Edit: to add, they don't do the whole "your momma's so fat... etc" type of your mum jokes.
They do "do you know who else did *insert random action*... your mum!"

So we're talking like "oww I banged my arm"
"Do you know who else banged her arm? Your mum!"

So usually it's just stupid rather than inherently mean.

You're such a lovely mum. It sounds like you're really friendly and kind with your children, which is so sweet of you.
