Cambridge PhD Funding Information Sharing Thread (International Students)

Hey everyone,

I haven't found a dedicated thread for this yet, so I thought creating one for international PhD candidates who have received Cambridge offers and (or not) funding decisions would be helpful. I think the situation for PhD is different compared to MPhil—same applies for international and local students.

As many know, the Cambridge Trust funding process should be well advanced by now. Let's share our current or past experiences to build collective intelligence about the current funding landscape!

If you're comfortable sharing, please include:

PhD program you were accepted to

Funding source (advisor, department, college, or Cambridge Trust)

Funding type (full scholarship, partial covering tuition only, living expenses only, etc.)

Any negative updates (e.g., specific scholarships no longer available)

Timeline of communications

This information could be incredibly valuable to current applicants still waiting and future applicants trying to understand the process.

Good luck to everyone—cheers!

Should a candidate accept their offer if they are still awaiting information about funding for PhD programs?

I was also unsure about this, nevertheless I accepted the offer as we still require to be financially liable to the amount indicated.

No financial liability! (Not like in US) so definitely accept

Here, department said they've nominated me for funding so it's just a waiting game now. Can take up to July to even get a decision 😬

Same lol. Been making me all kinds of crazy this waiting game. Glad to know there are others in the same boat. Which department?

That sucks big time. I got rejected by Gates but then I'd expected that honestly. History department. Hoping we both get in fingers crossed haha.

I also got rejected from the gates interview and am waiting on any funding…feels like a big let down because I was under the impression that the gates nomination meant I would at least get something. Pride comes before the fall, or something! Good luck everyone

Yeah I had emailed them a month ago -March 25- and they said they had given out most of the awards in March. They also said that if anyone declines the award, they’ll give it to other people. But yes, they’ve already offered the Harding (and I assume most people who get it won’t turn it down lol).

I'll advise we remain optimistic(delusional) for our own sanity till it's July 31😂🙏🏾. Thinking about funding has made my life miserable fr, I can't even do any task now

I can relate to that!

Seriously, can't they just offer funding with acceptance at once like they do in US? This system makes so many people anxious for months, and leaving people without an alternative option in july.

yeah this is so poorly managed. I get that it’s not exactly a centralized system but even individual scholarships could post updates like “yeah we’ve finished giving out our awards, bye”. I’m ****ed off lol

This! Giving updates will be so much better, at least you can see what options you have left but just leaving us in the dark is cruel.

I also got a Feb offer for an MPhil in Public Policy! And have heard nothing regarding funding yet. Keeping my fingers crossed for all of us!
