I love poetry and get very high marks in unseen. i recommend buying a poetry book and literally read through it and annotate like try find meanings within the poems and pick certain parts you want to analyse, it really helps!

hii, okay so from my experience - im not too bad at unseen and i've performed well in the essays we have practiced in class, ( we've done about three )

one thing i'd reccommend is before you start writing your unseen essay, spend three mts just looking through the poem and annotating anything u see - id recommend looking at the structure ( for example an ABAB rhyme scheme in a poem , or the lengths of the poem - each paragraph has 4 lines etc)

another thing, just analyse as much as you can, because this will stop you from spending time thinking in the middle of writing your essay - ik for aqa we have to do three essays on lit paper 2 , with oen of them being unseen and time is quite tight, so hence id defo recommend just doing as much analysis as you can - maybe practice some analysis before the exams, as this will sharpen your skills for language analysis questions ( such as q2 on paper 1 english lang ),

lastly, make sure to include some context! so for example, we had a poem about autumn - i would try relate it to current times

for exampe ( ik this sounds kinda bad help ) but you could say autumn is a fluctuating season; theres no set time it arrives, hence having an irregular pattern. this is relative to the ABAC rhyming scheme the poet has used, which could reflect on the irregularity fo seasons

and for the 8 marker ( again going with aqa )
where u compeare the unseen poem with another small poem :
remember the three main things to compare are

theme

langauge/techniques

structure

remember for this question, its only 8 marks, so don't write too much - i would say about half a page with good comparisons is good enough!
im sorry if this didnt help :frown:(
but best of luck uve got this!!

i got 23/24 for my unseen poetry mock 24 marker. my teacher told me that in nearly every single unsee n poem it would have a free verse and its really easy to link it to the theme of the poem. for example, the free verse could link to freedom or a free-spirited person etc. id say just know your basic poetry techniques (language and structure) and youll be fine
