Digital Media and Creative Writing - what’s it like?

I’m trying to make my firm and insurance decision, and one of the offers is Digital Media and Creative Writing at Herts. Unlike other places, I haven’t been able to find out much about this course from current students, and I don’t feel ready enough to make my decision without this input, especially on the Digital Media side.

Everything I read or hear seems to be about the animation or film-making courses, but that’s not what I’d be doing for the Digital Media half of my degree.

Could any student who’s doing this degree give me an informative view of what taking the course is like?

Thanks!

Hi @ineffable23,

Since you will be doing a Joint Honours degree you will spend your first year do a mixture of both digital media and creative writing modules. As you progress through your studies you will have the option to specialise in your preferred area.

What other courses and Universities are you looking into?

At UEA we offer Digital Media courses with Global Communication or creative computing. While these courses will be different to Herts, there will be a somewhat similar approach. In the sense, there is often the opportunity to look into creating films, podcasts, radio audio, as well as conducting research into how images and the media online is created. There should be a mixture of practical and theoretical work too.

It a very fun course, lots of our students at UEA really enjoy the course. It also can offer lots of different avenues in regard to life after university, such as marketing or transcending into the film or radio industry.

I’ve attached the link to the course profile for Herts as well as UEA , so you can gain more of an understanding of the course.

Herts:

UEA:

I would also recommend using Unibuddy to chat to current students online. You can do this through UCAS or through the University’s course profile page. Here is the UCAS one, where you can speak to students from all over the country. https://www.ucas.com/explore/search/unibuddy?query=

Have you also attended an applicant day or an open day? These are great ways to meet current students and interact with your course.

I hope that helps!
