Student accomodation prices

So........ did the Uni of Sheffield accomodation prices go up? Because why is it £8211.42??? That is nearly £200 a week, in SHEFFIELD. Is this normal? Is this inflation? If this is normal then could someone tell me - there is nothing special about the room, it's just a Ranmoore En Suite. The next lowest accomodations are £6000, but they're shared bathrooms. I'm not even considering it tbh, I just need to know if £195.51 pw is the new standard since everything has gone up. I am appauled.

I remember when j was renting my student accommodation in 2016 (yes I graduate about 6 years ago), my rent was £99 per week (all bills included in Bristol), however, this was about a half an hour bus ride or an hour walk from uni.

The price is now £145 per week. Inflation has kicked EVERYTHING’s ass hard, no joke. This was not a great place to rent (as the pic shows) as it was a single bed, shared bathroom and next to no floor space but it was relatively cheap at the time for what effectively amounted to a box room.

Sadly student loans have not kept up with inflation, so people make do with what they can afford. With on campus accommodation, you are effectively paying for the proximity and the safety of living on campus, translation, convenience which is a big cost factor to take into account.

Screenshot of what used to be my room from the company site. Just for reference, I used to pay £5,148 per year in rent, it is now £7,560 per year.

Threw the £5,148 per year into an inflation calculator and that amount in Feb 2025 is £6,396. So yes, inflation is providing some contribution and then some…

Yes, you are right. The University of Sheffield's accommodation fees for 2025 have risen by an average of 5-7% compared to 2024. This is likely to be linked to UK inflation and increased operating costs.Ranmoor/Endcliffe Village is a popular area of halls of residence for the University, with newer facilities and more social activities, but prices are higher than in other older buildings on campus. Alternatively, you can opt for student accommodation near the University of Sheffield at a better price.
