Disability, mental illness and employment

So, I live in England, and I'm just wondering what happens if I don't declare a mental disability or mental illness on my employment forms and leave a section blank because Equality Act documents usually ask for ethnicity, religion etc. What happens if I refuse or omit this type of information and refuse to give my ethnicity, religion, etc, on Equality Act documentation used for equality and diversity monitoring purposes. Just so I'm not the statistic that seems to be diverse or anything like that? Or anything of the ordinary?

My plans are to get an official diagnosis of ADHD and then not take medication for it because I plan to work in construction, where drug testing is mandatory, and if they catch methylphenidate or amphetamine-based medicines in my system, they will give me the sack because it will treat the perfectly legal ADHD prescription as illicit drug taking and I'm not a druggie.

No matter what, even if the area manager pulls me to the side, I am always going to say I don't have anything wrong with me because I don't believe in this modern diversity rubbish and I will be too ashamed anyway to admit it.

I just want to be treated like everybody else in the workplace that's all.

Your health should come first, so if advised by a doctor to take medication, I suggest that you take the medication.

In most instances, providing data for diversity monitoring is optional. But an employer can only be expected to provide reasonable adjustments in respect of a disability if the employer knows of the existence of the disability.

Disability law seeks to provide fair opportunities for disabled people by, in some circumstances, permitting employers to make adjustments which put a disabled person on an equal footing with a person who is not disabled. Not all diversity initiatives are mere talk, and not all are politicised. The law can have the benign effect of affording a level playing field for all those seeking or carrying out work.

In some employments, the existence of a disability could be a factor relevant to the ability of the employee to do the job, and concealment of the disability from the employer might be a valid ground for dismissal, although employers will usually be very cautious about taking any adverse action in respect of an employee who is disabled.

if you "don't believe in this modern diversity rubbish" and are not going to take medication, what's the point of getting a diagnosis?

you're overthinking it. just show them your prescription when you have a drug test, no need to tell them your diagnosis

Then the employer might fire me because of being dishonesty.

Then the employer might fire me because of being dishonesty.

no, bc you're not obliged to disclose your adhd, plus you'd be protected by the equality act

An employer does not contravene the Act if the employer is unaware of the disability.
