Low alcohol/Quiet accommodation UEA

Please could anyone tell me just how quiet the low alcohol/quiet accommodation is at UEA? My son has applied as he doesn’t drink but I am worried they will be too quiet as he does enjoy listening to music in his room and would enjoy chatting with flatmates in communal areas. So I’m a little concerned this accommodation may be too quiet for him. Thanks.

Hi there,

That's such a great and thoughtful question!

At UEA, the quiet or low-alcohol accommodation isn’t silent by any means it's more about setting shared expectations. It’s really designed for students who don’t want to be living in a “party flat” or constantly dealing with loud late-night noise. But day-to-day socialising, listening to music at a reasonable level, and chatting in the kitchen are all completely normal and happen just like in any other flat.

In fact, many students choose quiet or low-alcohol accommodation not because they’re super introverted, but simply because they like a calmer environment or don’t drink much. It tends to attract friendly, respectful flatmates who still want that social side of uni life just without the 3am corridor karaoke!

If your son enjoys chatting with people, hanging out in the kitchen, or listening to music in his room (within reason), he’ll be absolutely fine. And UEA has loads of societies, clubs and social spaces where he’ll meet people from all kinds of backgrounds too it won’t limit his social life.

Hope this reassures you a little! And feel free to reach out if you want me to share a bit more about student life here.

Best wishes,
