Dental Nursing at Portsmouth

Hi all just need advice,

So I have applied for Dental Hygiene and Therapy to 5 different universities, where I had two for for Portsmouth (Dental Hygiene and Therapy and just Dental Hygiene).
I got rejected for all 4 and then for Portsmouth Dental Hygiene and Therapy they gave me an offer for Dental Nursing instead for one year. Should i take this offer or look for completely different courses through UCAS extra. I think all my rejections were mostly because of work experience as I just did work shadowing in a clinic over 2 days. I'm just really scared after the dental nursing program I won't have progression opportunities, as it is also a diploma of higher education and not a degree.

Someone please give me your opinion, as Dental Hygiene was always something I wanted to.

I think most unis that offer DH or DH&T will appreciate a dental nursing qualification as it shows you're committed to dental field. It is only a 1 year course and you can earn decent money as soon as you qualify and build your experience and do further short courses as well.

I don't think you can just do a "top-up". You will have to apply through UCAS and meet the entry requirements for any new course.

Have you got ABB already or predicted ABB?

I'm sure doing dental nursing course will help your application of you re-apply next year, it shows commitment.

Hello,
I spoke with the Portsmouth admission people and they said the top up course is available you have to do it with in three years of finishing the nursing course and of course meet their requirements for this course and yes you would have to apply via ucas

Hey what is the entry requirements?? Do they accept if we finish there dental nursing course??

Hi, if you think its the lack of experience I dont think so I had 6 years of dental nursing experience and got rejected by many universities. Some universities dont even count a dental nursing as a qualification. Well you mentioned you have a higher diploma i assume its either level 3 or access to science. If it is then I would recommend you to apply uni with lower requirements such as in Newcastle, Sheffield, uni of bolton etc. last year kings college london accepted me and in my class they were lots of students doing DTH without having dental nurse qualification out of 30 students only like 3 people had it. Either you can apply again at different uni or the Portsmouth way.
