I think that joining societies is a great way of doing something fun while you are here and making lots of friends as well! Have a look at the societies at the Uni you are going to and see if there is any that you like the look of as they are really fun. The socials are good fun too and people often dress up which is really fun!

There are often fun events at the SU too so it might be worth doing this too as you will have fun here too! A lot of student unions will put lots on so it is always worth looking at!
•
I also really liked living in halls so if you can I would recommend doing this. It's good to live independently and it was something so different to anything I had done before which was really fun.
•
Again with living in halls, you meet so many people and it is really social. People usually want to go out and do things which is really fun. Even staying in is fun as there will usually be someone around to do something with.
•
I also thought that cooking for myself was fun too! Again along the same lines, just living and doing things you haven't done before is always really fun.
•
If you don't live in halls, there are still so many fun things to do which make your uni life fun! You will still meet lots of people on your course which is so fun!

Work hard, but don't put excessive pressure on yourself. Take time to do things other than work, keep your evenings free and get involved with things outside your studies. such as...
•
Join a society - something, anything that you think you will enjoy. These can be great to get to know more people, can give you skills for your CV as well as providing a nice separation form your academic work.
•
Work part-time as a student ambassador - this is good money, varied, fun work which is flexible around your timetable. Hugely recommended.
•
Go to at least 1 SU event or night every fortnight. Even if you don't think its usually your thing, perhaps arrange to go with a few friends or flatmates - these are often friendly and informal social nights for both drinkers and non-drinkers.
•
See the sights in the city - visit town - go to the cafes, browse the shops, find a nice pub, explore your new second home.
