Resitting as a private candidate?

I sat all my GCSEs last summer in 2024, however, I wasn't happy with a grade from a certain subject. I didn't fail but it wasn't the best.
So, I decided to resit it as a private candidate at a separate college that offers to sit exams there privately. I am also now doing a different tier in the subject.
Now, I have a few questions:
1. If I do better than my previous grade, will this grade replace the other? or will I have two separate grades?
2. How will this show up on my GCSE certificate?
3. Will have to show and explain this separate grade to universities etc.?
4. Will I be able to reselect my A level subjects with this new grade in mind?

Hopefully these questions make sense lol

I'm pretty sure when retaking a GCSE you get a new grade instead of it replacing the old one.

1.

you will have 2 grades. If you apply to university you would be required to state both. When you write a CV for employment you would probably state the best one.

2.

you will have 2 certificates. You will get a certificate for the retake that just shows that one subject and grade. Your 2024 certificates would not be changed.

3.

you will have to state both results in you education section, you probably won't ever have to explain it.

4.

you might be able to change your A levels based on a new, better grade though that's a decision for your school/college. Even if you are allowed to change you might be required to restart year 12 with the new selection.
