Foundation Level GCSE Chemistry and Biology - what should he do

Hi, my son is 16 and about to do his GCSEs. He has had a very tough two years, and attendance is very low, but he is a bright boy but at the moment not really engaging. He is at grammar school, but the school has suggested he does Foundation level—is it really easier to get a pass on foundation level than the higher? He is not sure what to do, and I don't know what to recommend.

Hi, my son did F level combined sciences last year. I believe the course load is lighter than H level science. If the school have recommended F level, I think it is good advice. Definitely print out lots of past papers and get him working on those - you can also get the mark scheme so you can see how well he’s doing and what areas he needs to work on. These are available from the relevant exam board. Good luck!

Hiya!
F is definitely easier than H, however there is a limit that he can not get a higher grade that 5, which is still a good grade. Keep an eye on colleges and 6 form entry requirements as if he is applying for Chemistry or Biology for a levels there may he higher subject requirments than 5. If not, it won't affect anything else.
