It's not uncommon that uni student accommodations are mixed gender. You may check the arrangements for specific halls.

Hi, hope you're having a fab day!
Typically, students have the opportunity to pick whether they want to live with all girls, boys or mixed. I've had a look at Sheffield unis website and it says they do offer single sex, dedicated LGBT accomodation! I would ring Sheffield uni and double check with them but I'm pretty sure if you go through the Sheffield uni process whatever you pick will be guaranteed!

When I was applying for accommodation in 1st year, I remember there was a chat option on the portal and when asking it for room types, it can explain what the options are.
I believe there should be options for single-gender rooms if that is what you prefer.
You can check by contacting accommodation services either through the portal, or by email/ phone.
