Any Aspiring Physiotherapists/Physiotherapy Applicants Here?

Hey all,

My name is Matt.
I was a student at the University of Southampton (from 2018-2020), where I completed an MSc (Pre-Reg) in Physiotherapy.
I'm now HCPC registered, CSP chartered and an experienced MSK Physiotherapist.
I completed my NHS rotations as a band 5, specialised as an MSK Band 6 before leaving the NHS a few years later to work as a locum and ON THE SET OF WICKED 1 + 2 (Cool, right?)
I am currently working shifts at Circle Health Group (private healthcare), I run a small online physio and personal training business, and I'm also a content creator on YouTube where I post fitness and physio-related videos.

I'm also doing some modelling on the side.

Wow, that was a mouthful...

Basically my other half says I should give back a bit to the community by answering any questions you guys have about the profession, the university application process, and anything else you wish to know!

ASK ME ANYTHING

Hello ! Congratulations on everything you have achieved. I'm due to start nursing in September and am wondering if you can help me with the occupational health form. I've been sent an email from the uni with a red button that says occupational health form. I clicked on that and it asks me to set up an account but it asks for a company code which I don't have. I've emailed occupational health and they've said they have no record of me. Am I doing something wrong ?

Call admissions at the uni and explain your problem.

Hi Matt, sounds like you’re doing amazing things.
Can you tell me, honestly, what it’s like studying physio at Southampton and what is like living as a student in Southampton?
Many thanks

What are the benefits and drawbacks of doing the MSci 4 year undergraduate vs the BSc 3 year?

MSc is 2 years, you get it done quicker but its more stressful

I had the best time at Southampton! I graduated a few years ago now but honestly it was one of the best experiences I've had.

Some good times, and some stressful times but i wouldn't change it for the world.
Feel free to DM any more questions

That didn't answer the question.

The poster asked about the 4 year MSci vs 3yr BSc, not the 2yr MSc & 3yr BSc pre-reg routes.

@SaD17, the 4yr course has a Masters year included. The 3yr BSc is literally just the undergraduate pre-registration course which gives you the basics to register and practice as a physio. Adding the 4th year by doing the MSci gives you the 3 year BSc PLUS adds a Masters year on top for you to specialise in a particular area of practice. The course info of the programmes you are interested in should detail all of this, but the important thing is that both courses enable you to register and practice as a physio in the UK.

Hi there,

I am a mature student who has just been offered a place (in my late 30s!), I am trying to get an idea of the first year timetable / the amount of days required / rough start and finish times / and contact hours on campus so that I can start prepping my chilcare provider for the big change!

I'm excited and terrified all at the same time!

This is something to ask the admissions dept at your university, as all courses do things slightly differently.

Hiya Matt, congratulations on the career! Wicked 1+2, that's super cool.

If you're still around, I'm also interested in your response to the comment above:

Thanks!

Also, how did you find the job market post pre reg? Was it quite hard to secure a band 5 position given how many graduates there are?

Hey sorry, not as active on here as i should be.

MSc can be quite intense, 9-5 Monday to Friday during some terms.
BScs have a lot more free time
Contact time was up to 30-35 hours some weeks

Thanks for posting this and congratulations on all you have achieved! My son is going to study physio at Southampton, if A levels go to plan! Could you offer any advice on which device would be most useful? iPad? Computer? Many thanks.

Great to hear how well you’ve done. Just wondering how much, pre interview, you had of practical shadowing.

Hi Matt! I hope you’re doing well. I’ve just been invited to interview for Physiotherapy at Southampton and I was wondering if you’d be happy to share what the interview was like for you and what kind of questions they usually ask? I’d really appreciate any tips to help me prepare

Hi Matt, can you explain to me what your journey was like after graduating from uni and into the workplace? As in what steps did you take to get employed by the NHS and the time frame/workload of going from a band 5 to a band 6 physio:smile:
